Important Notes for the 2025-2026 School Year…

Class Structure: The Student Government class period will be open to more officers for the 2025-2026 school year. With the addition of Homeroom to the Cottonwood High School schedule, we will be continuing our Student Government Homeroom class that will include the 8 SBOs and 32 Class Officers. There will be a Student Government class period that will consist of the SBOs and the Class Presidents as well as any other officers that are able to be a part of the class. It is important to note that if the class is large, there will be times when the extra class officers will not have a significant amount of work to do in class. Their time might be spent making posters.

Class Officers: Class Officer positions have been added to match the Student Body Officer positions. There are 8 Class Officers per grade: President, Vice President, Historian, Communications, Artist, Stampede ASC, Dance ASC and Secretary. Secretary positions will be determined by teacher vote rather than student vote.

Class Officer Roles and Responsibilities

Officers run for specific positions. However, the roles and responsibilities associated with each position are only a small portion of what the Class Officer will be doing. Time in Homeroom and in class is usually used for planning and carrying out details of the big Student Government sponsored events and initiatives such as assemblies, Homecoming activities, Gold Rush (charity) activities, Colts are Great activities, elections, Homeroom activities, teacher appreciation, etc.

Senior Class Officers have responsibilities in addition to what the other grade level officers have. Senior class officers plan and carry out all senior specific activities such as Senior Sunrise/Sunset, Senior Superlatives for the yearbook, Senior Dinner Dance and other graduation activities. The Senior Class President also traditionally speaks at graduation and coordinates with the other senior officers in planning all future class reunions.

All Class Officers will assist their SBO counterparts with certain aspects of the SBO responsibilities, giving particular attention to how they can help their specific grade in that area. Class Presidents will have extra responsibilities as members of the SBO class, and must be prepared to dedicate significantly more time to their position than the other class officers.

Academics

The requirement is a 3.0 GPA and a 3.0 CPA for Quarter 3 and it is expected that this standard be maintained throughout the year in office if elected.

While this is the academic requirement to be a class officer, if you would like to run and have a GPA lower than 3.0 for Quarter 3, see Mrs. Hsiao.

Dedication

Class Officers are the appointed leaders for each grade level at Cottonwood. The activities, events, assemblies, and initiatives take a significant amount of time to plan.

Class Presidents will join the SBO class period next year. This position will take significantly more time and responsibility compared to the other class officer positions. If you choose to run for president, be prepared to have a responsibilities almost to the level of an SBO.

All other positions will not be required to be in the SBO class period, but will be encouraged to participate if able and will join the Student Government Homeroom class.

All officers will commit to afterschool activities and initiatives.

Summer Planning

In order to be prepared for events at the beginning of the school year, we will need to complete important planning during the Summer Break. SBO and Class President are required to attend the Utah State University Leadership Camp from June 2-4. Other class officers are not required to attend USULC, but are highly encouraged to attend! On average, we spend about one week throughout the summer working on Student Government tasks. Summer days are somewhat flexible, but the two weeks before school starts is an important time for Class Officers. Mark your calendars!
