Communications Q&A
What does it mean to you to be a Colt?
Abby Beauchaine
Being a Colt means to me personally, respecting others, having a positive attitude towards something to encourage student inclusion, even when I don't want to. Respecting the GREAT acronym that has been posted around the school throughout the entire school year and not just when needed. Being an officer, who others can look up to and someone who is approachable and inclusive, rather than secluded to just one friend group.
Kya Budge
To be a colt means to be respectful, kind, responsible, academically inclined and welcoming.
What are two Initiatives you will work on as an SBO next year if you are elected?
Abby Beauchaine
I would, first, like to generate interest in school activities and create colorful and interesting announcements that can appeal to a greater majority of the student body.
Secondly, I would like to potentially create student of the week from either each class, club, sport, or specific class activity. It would be posted on Instagram and throughout the school with the student and their parent's permission for their unusual, good deeds throughout the school. Student selection would be by the student body and teacher/staff for any big or small kind act or just a student who deserves to be shown for their kind heart n willingness to help others.
Kya Budge
Two initiatives I will work on if I am elected is getting people to come and support not only cwood athletic events but musical events. I would do this by getting the word out through Kolt news, social media, by word of mouth etc. and I would post about the events either the very morning of or the day before so people are away.
What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?
Abby Beauchaine
Give students the opportunity to learn about other's needs, disabilities, cultures, or religions, by making them feel respected over neglected and celebrating their similarities and their differences. Include those who want to be included in activities like this and respect the boundaries of those who would rather stay back on the side. Don't force it upon others, but always invite.
This can be accomplished through culture week, a certain assembly, or through spotlighting a certain club, even if you don't like it, still respect those who are in it.
Kya Budge
One way I would develop activities to make everyone feel included is in assemblies not only do things that take some athleticism, also do things that are intellectual.
What advice do you have to stay motivated with academics throughout the year?
Abby Beauchaine
Don't get discouraged with low grades and give up. Even if the class is difficult, don't be afraid to ask for help from your teachers or your peers, there are many ways you can receive help with an assignment or project either through your counselor, teacher, tutor.com or students in your class. The most important thing is to not get all upset with yourself and give up. There are many different ways to succeed in your classes, even without achieving straight A's. Another very important thing is to not compare yourself to your classmates, everyone learns differently, and everyone succeeds differently. Not one person is the same, focus less on your mistakes and focus more on your achievements and how you can improve on one thing rather than how badly you did on another.
Kya Budge
My advice is that staying motivated with academics will give you so many life skills later in life that is worth putting in the little effort that it takes to get good grades.
