What makes Cottonwood the BEST high school in Utah?

Sunnie Ivins

Cottonwood is the best high school in Utah because of its students. Cottonwood students are very welcoming and inclusive. Cottonwood is a very diverse school full of opportunities for everyone.

Peter Maughan

The teachers are very kind and have a good relationship with the students they teach.

Juan Cespedes

I think CHS is the best school because it has many things that the others don't, like its cheerful people and its unique characteristics.

Isabella Morris

What I believe makes Cottonwood High school the best high school in Utah is the support we have for each other when we achieve something. Everyone is always hyping each other up either for sports or theatre accomplishments. That is why I believe cottonwood is the best high school.

Christina Paluzzi

Cottonwood is the best high school in utah because of the diversity and the positive impact we give off.

Chelsey Weaver

Teachers are able to teach better I feel. It also has lots of different clubs/activities the school is diverse and is able to aid to people who need it.

Carley Stephens

Cottonwood is the best high school in Utah because have the most diverse population ever. Before I came to Cottonwood all the schools would just have one other person of color there. Here at Cottonwood every time you turn the corner you hear a different language, See a different cultural ethnicity and most importantly seeing the friendships made between multiple different cultures and people.

Amelia Linscott

What makes Cottonwood high school the best? We have the best community. I always feel like we give great support. Even though we don't have the biggest student sections people still come and show the support our players deserve. Cottonwood has a loving community through the students, parents, teachers, staff and the community around us. I've always felt supported while being at Cottonwood.

Addi Condie

Cottonwood is FULL of different people with different backgrounds and it creates an environment where everyone can find someone they fit in with.

What will you do as a class officer to make sure everyone in your grade feels valued at school?

Sunnie Ivins

As a class officer I will work to support every student and their pursuits. I will go to as many school events as possible, from e-sports to football to musicals. To include students who are not in clubs or on teams, I will invite all students to school events, and to get to know others. I will raise awareness of school issues and collaborate to find solutions. I believe that talking to students and connecting with as many people as possible will help foster a fun and welcoming school. Every student deserves to know that they are wanted and I can do this by reaching out and talking to them.

Peter Maughan

I will invite everyone to the events that are hosted and encourage that students attend the performances and sports games.

Juan Cespedes

Well, I believe that each CHS student has something very special that I know they will feel identified with someone like me who will be willing at all times to listen and advise them.

Isabella Morris

One of my main goals is to unite people here at cottonwood, when outsiders look at our school I want people to look at us as a community. One way I can do this is by talking to people I've never spoken to before, to make new friends around the school and invite them to events to make sure everyone is included.

Christina Paluzzi

As a class officer I would make sure our student body has an opportunity to express their opinions on events, tailgates, themes, etc.

Chelsey Weaver

Saying hi to people, even if I don’t know them. Giving random complements too!

Carley Stephens

As a class officer I would make sure everybody's voice is heard. When picking themes for dances sporting events and other decisions we make as class officers I want to include the student body put up Poles ask people 1 on 1 what they would like to see throughout our school.

Amelia Linscott

I will work hard to make sure everyone feels heard. If I hear someone voice their opinion even if it isn't the same as mine, I will bring it to their attention. I will strive to make everyone feel valued by making sure everyone is able to join any event, club, or sport they want.

Addi Condie

To help everyone feel included Ill help events not just be catered to the "popular" groups, Cottonwood has so many different groups that should get just as much representation.

What is one tradition you want to keep next year and what is one you want to see change?

Sunnie Ivins

One of my favorite Cottonwood traditions are the tailgates before sports events. I love going and spending time with my friends before games where we can get hyped. Face paint and games help everyone feel school spirit and excited to watch the games. Next year I want to have many tailgates and have everyone come to support our teams. A tradition that I think can be changed is having Spring Fling after Prom. Prom is such a big event and takes more planning and May is already such a busy month wit AP tests and senior activities. I think switching Spring Fling will give all students one last opportunity to have fun together without the pressures and expectations that come with Prom.

Peter Maughan

I want to keep the charity week and the colts are great and historian assemblies. I also want to keep the different activities and sports supporting each other. I don't think any traditions need to change right now.

Juan Cespedes

I don't think I would like to change many things about our school, but for example on Fridays when we start at 8:30 the kids who use the bus have to wake up at 6:00 to be able to take the bus, so I think it would be better than on Fridays The bus will stop at 8:00 so people who don't have a car don't have to take the bus so early.

Isabella Morris

One of my favorite traditions we have here at Cottonwood Highschool is the game assassin we play, I feel that it makes you meet and learn about people in your community that you have never met before. However, one thing I would change if I had the opportunity is to allow students to vote for our themes at sporting events.

Christina Paluzzi

One tradtion I whould like to keep is the homecoming assembly and one thing i whould change is how we do the hello day assembly.

Chelsey Weaver

The monster mash dance, dances having less gender ask specific. The “tradition” of teams supporting teams was really great. I was on the tennis team and it was fun supporting the girls soccer team, and it was nice to get support when it was the tennis team game.

Carley Stephens

One tradition we should keep is fireworks after the football game However this is also one I would like to change these past 2 years we haven't been able to rush the field during our homecoming football game and congratulate our players. I would like to see this happen again! I know many students were unhappy with the outcome of the fireworks last year, however I hope that we can improve and try and get this tradition back to the way it was a couple years ago when we rushed the field hugging our football players and watch the fireworks in the night sky.

Amelia Linscott

One of our Cottonwood traditions I want to keep next year is keeping our homecoming the night after our last home football game. There was talk about changing this but I love having our homecoming football game Friday night and then the dance the next saturday. I would also like to see our spirit weeks become even better, encourage more people to dress up.

Addi Condie

One Cottonwood tradition I want to keep going is Senior Sunrise/Sunset. It's an amazing way to start and end the year, it brings everyone together to share a together to share an extremely memorable experience. Just compared to this past year I would like to see our charity week re-vamped. It's an amazing idea that should be represented and advertised more at Cottonwood, its a good idea that has the potential to amazing.

Pick a letter of Cottonwood's GREAT and describe how your own leadership skills showcase that term.

Sunnie Ivins

I am engaged. I have gone to most of the football, basketball and soccer games. I have gone to the musicals and plays for years. In class, I am a very engaged student and I strive to meet high academic standards. I love to cheer loudly for our students and find that being excited about our school activities helps to increase school spirit, helping students to be successful and feel welcomed at school.

Peter Maughan

I am tolerant because I try to include others in activities I do, I am very patient, and I always listen to others ideas.

Juan Cespedes

I am the letter G because I feel that I want to fulfill my goals for the next year. I am tired of always being the same and I want to feel like someone better and feel good with myself.

Isabella Morris

I am most definitely goal-oriented. My parents have always taught me to know where I am going, and that the best way to fulfill that is to make goals. Could be small goals for the week or long term goals for the year but I know that it is very helpful to me and extremely important to have.

Christina Paluzzi

I am engaged because I always get my work done in class I also get straight a's. When I put my mind to somthing I get it done.

Chelsey Weaver

I am accountable because I’ve always had to work hard on work alone. And I have had siblings teach me how to be responsible.

Carley Stephens

I am goal orienbecause even though goals may seem far to reach for but with hard work and a passionate leader they're able to be attained. I hope that each and every one of my goals can be attained this year if I was elected as your junior class officer.

Amelia Linscott

I am respectful because I always treat others with respect no matter what. I am always kind to others whether they are an adult, students, children, admin, or teachers. It doesn't matter, everyone deserves to be talked to with respect. I have always believed in being respectful to others, it is an important aspect of life. I also think having the leadership skill of being respectful plays a big part in being a good leader.

Addi Condie

I am goal-oriented because I always think about how what I'm doing now, will effect my future and where it will take me. Everything I'm doing now is helping me accomplish my goals.
