President Q&A

What does it mean to you to be a Colt?

Ramon Ramirez

To me being a Colt is being proud of who you are and where you come from. And not letting things you did in the past define your Future.

Samuel Clements

I am proud to be a Cottonwood Colt. We are the most diverse school in the state and how lucky am I that I get to experience how the real world is in addition to my academics. People don't always understand the huge benefit it is to be able to have a real-world education that is only available at Cottonwood. I have friends who speak different languages, from different countries and have different religions and cultures. We are all on one team. At Cottonwood, we are one. I am proud to say I go to Cottonwood.

Zephaniah Hoko

It means to me that you are a involved in a community much bigger then yourself, your not just yourself, you are a Colt. To take pride in the stuff our school offers, and to show support. Going to plays, games and competitions. Show every division of cottonwood that you are there to support 100% because you are a fellow colt.

What are two Initiatives you will work on as an SBO next year if you are elected?

Ramon Ramirez

1. Making cottonwood more of a community by including more of our programs/departments

2. I would like to prepare/promote things like assemblies, dances, and other events better

Samuel Clements

1. Better communication and promotion of ALL students and organizations to increase overall attendance support from the student body.

2. To get more student input from ALL students to make all events feel inclusive. To find ways to bus students after hours to be able to attend events who couldn't otherwise attend.

Zephaniah Hoko

I wanna change the way people treat the ones different from them, such as the relationship between theater kids to football kids, or music kids and others, cottonwood is one big family and we should respect everyone. Another is to show that going to cottonwood and being a colt is something to be proud in, not just “yeah I go to lame cottonwood”.

What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?

Ramon Ramirez

I would like to go around and ask questions and do surveys to better understand what our students like and from there create activities where everyone can be included and have fun.

Samuel Clements

I want to meet with the leaders of all clubs and organizations and get their feedback on how we could make their groups feel included and how we can improve our events so all students will want to attend. I feel like we could incorporate so many different perspectives to improve each of our events. We don't need to do things the same way we've always done them. There is always room at the table for new ideas.

Zephaniah Hoko

Obviously I’d make them for everyone, not just one demographic. I would encourage people to come to events to see first hand what colt pride and the community we have at Cwood is. Even if they aren’t fans of basketball or plays, I would encourage many people of different backgrounds to come see for themselves the awesome variety of stuff cottonwood has to offer, and maybe they’ll find a club or program they would join as well, strengthening the community.

What advice do you have to stay motivated with academics throughout the year?

Ramon Ramirez

Always remember where you want to be and what you want to achieve, and keep pushing even when it gets hard.

Samuel Clements

If you work hard in high school you can get a college scholarship and save yourself thousands of dollars in student loan debt and set yourself up for a career. Just put the work in now, I promise it will pay off in the long run. Take advantage of all the college classes and CTE classes offered at Cottonwood. Get a head start. Take advantage of all the student support Cottonwood offers to students. Take the help and all the opportunities you can get.

Zephaniah Hoko

Do not procrastinate and feel like your stuck. You have the tools to have the help needed with your academics, it just takes the courage to talk to your teachers.
