Secretary Q&A

What are two Initiatives you will work on as an SBO next year if you are elected?

Carley Stephens

I would love to start a freshmen mentorship program where an older student takes a freshman under their wing and gives them tips for their first year in high school. I'd also like to start an anonymous tip box for student government, so we can get feedback from our students about the events. We can put it up after one of our activities, like assemblies or dances, to get the students' thoughts on what they liked and what they didn't so we can get them involved and tailor our activities to what our students like.

Taryn Finlinson

I want to bring more inclusivity and awareness to ALL sports, clubs, and teams, such as the Improv team, wrestling team, theater department, mental health club, golf, and any other sports or clubs. I also want to create a better and more organized system for communicating what is going on at Cottonwood to parents, teachers, and students to create an even better community.

What does it mean to you to be a Colt?

Carley Stephens

Being a Colt means being a part of an inclusive and diverse student body where everyone's ideas are valued. As well as having growing opportunities to improve academic, social, and personal development. Being a colt means helping someone in need of help in any situation (as long as it's not against the rules). Being a colt I want to always respect and ask for others' ideas on Cottonwood-specific ideas

Taryn Finlinson

Being a colt means to me going to all the school events you can and having pride in your school no matter what. It means to me that there is a community where I can be supported and where I can support others no matter what is going on.

What is one way you would develop activities to make everyone at Cottonwood feel welcome and included?

Carley Stephens

One way I would develop activities is to include and get the thoughts of the other clubs and activities at Cottonwood. This ensures that not only does the student government know about these events, the other student leaders know as well so they can help spread the word about the activity and they can help give ideas on how to include every group here at Cottonwood.

Taryn Finlinson

I want to include more groups into assemblies and other school events, including some groups that don’t always get as much recognition as they deserve.

What advice do you have to stay motivated with academics throughout the year?

Carley Stephens

Be sure to take time for yourself!! Don't spend all of your time working on school work or you'll get burnt out. Take a day to do what you need to feel like a billionaire.

Taryn Finlinson

Don´t procrastinate, be honest with your teachers if you need help, create a study group with friends to help motivate you, and know that it´s going to be ok, you´re going to get through it, and it will get better.
