Senior Q&A

What makes Cottonwood the BEST high school in Utah?

Samuel Clements

I think our diversity makes us the best school in Utah.

Matthew Miskimens

The Students make Cottonwood the best high school in Utah. We make Cottonwood the school that it is.

Kaitlyn Julian

Cottonwood is the best high school in Utah because of our diversity and the culture is so inviting. No matter what your background is there is always a place for us, whether it's a sports team, AP and honors classes, or friends. There are also so many opportunities that other high schools don't have. Another thing that Cottonwood does that I love is how different clubs are in charge of supporting another club. Making posters and going to sports, debate, and theater competitions is so fun to do and shows our support for each other.

Adriana Mendez

What makes Cottonwood the BEST high school in Utah is that we have SO much diversity. We have wonderful students from all over, which creates this wonderful community that everyone should see. Our different cultures in our school are very beautiful and that's what makes it the BEST school in Utah.

There are so many things that make Cottonwood the BEST High School in Utah. For one, Cottonwood has a lot of school spirit. We might be fewer in number at events, but we are mighty in spirit. Students at Cottonwood have tremendous school pride and everyone I associate with loves being a student here. Another thing that makes Cottonwood the BEST is it's inclusivity and diversity. There is a place for everyone at Cottonwood and it often feels like we're one big happy family. These are just a few of the things that make Cottonwood High the BEST.

What will you do as a class officer to make sure everyone in your grade feels valued at school?

Samuel Clements

I’ll go to extra lengths to make people feel included by talking to everyone and not just people I know.

Matthew Miskimens

I will want to showcase more students strengths and make cottonwood a place where we acknowledge good work.

Kaitlyn Julian

I want the senior class of 2024 to feel valued because it should be our best year yet. I am looking to build relationships with all the grades and make everyone feel included. As the oldest grade at Cottonwood people look to not only SBO's and class officers, but the whole grade to make changes.

Adriana Mendez

What I would do as a class officer is that I make sure that I can hear students opinions on what they would like to see or do. It is really important to hear what the students want, their input is what makes them feel more included in the school and how we can improve the student involvement. With the input of students we can thrive better as a school and will have tons of kids.

Adam ball

There are many things that class officers and SBO's can and should do to make sure everyone in our grade and school feels valued. I think it's important to listen. Listening to what concerns students may have and what they want when it comes to events and activities is an important part of making them feel valued. Cottonwood has many talented students, so along with listening to students, is including as many as possible in the execution of activities and events. I believe these simple things will go a long way in helping students to feel like they are valued when they are at Cottonwood.

What is one tradition you want to keep next year and what is one you want to see change?

Samuel Clements

I want to keep Senior sunrise and sunset. I want to see rushing the football field come back.

Matthew Miskimens

One tradition that I would like to keep is the Colts are Great assembly which is always pretty fun. One tradition that I would want to change is how we had zero stomps this year.

Kaitlyn Julian

One Cottonwood tradition that I love is the Hello Day assembly, I know almost every school does this, but I think it is such a fun assembly to kick off the school year and meet your new SBO's. One tradition that I want to change is voting for themes at games. I think the student body should be able to show their input and I think more people would dress up for the themes if they voted for it.

Adriana Mendez

One Cottonwood tradition to keep is our Talent show. This tradition is a great way to let students show their amazing hidden talents. This creates a great way to help them express themselves and be more open. One thing I want to see more recognition is having our school clubs host some type of event they wanna try out. They should be able to have an event to themselves and show others how cool and amazing their club is. This gives opportunities to students to try out different kinds of clubs to see what they like. Personally I really like to check out different types of clubs and make new friends. These clubs honestly make me feel more included in school and I want others to feel the same way.

Adam ball

One tradition at Cottonwood I would definitely like to see kept is CWOOD ASSASSIN. Not only is it a super fun activity, it brings the students together and keeps everyone on their toes! One Cottonwood tradition I would like to see change is the charity assembly. I think the publicity and promoting of this activity could be increased so that more are aware of it. It is definitely something more people could get involved with.

Pick a letter of Cottonwood's GREAT and describe how your own leadership skills showcase that term.

Samuel Clements

I am Responsible because I make sure that all of my work is taken care of on time and I’m very punctual as well.

Matthew Miskimens

I am accountable because I take responsibility in my actions and decisions.

Kaitlyn Julian

One of the colts are GREAT core value that I love is tolerant. I am tolerant because I am open-minded and ready to work with people who have different ideas. I am flexible and can work with absolutely anyone. Compromises is what will help make changes and keep everyone happy and proud of their work at the end of the year.

Adriana Mendez

A letter that describes me in Colt's GREAT is Goal-oriented. I try to set new goals each day to help me accomplish new things as well as my well-being. Goals can be as easy as going to class on time or turning in homework early. Or hard as playing Bohemian Rhapsody on the electric guitar or facing a phobia. Goals are very important to me and they should be taken very seriously. We should always try to have some type of goal that we can achieve and feel good about it once it has been done.

Adam ball

I believe that the T for tolerance applies to me. I love the diversity of students at Cottonwood and have found myself becoming friends with many people I wouldn't have otherwise. I am tolerant and accepting of others and respectful of all different points of view.
